Painted during an art residency in Mexico inspired by Homero Aridjis’ poem about the famous volcano Popocatepetl. The legendary Quetzalcoatl emerges from the heart of the volcano.

“Red sun in the west.

Long fixed rays piercing the valley.

Sky tensely blue.

Among the volcanic peaks, the smoking crest of  Popocatepetl.

From its summit, loose rocks roll down, silent, without weight, like a cataclysm without sound.”
