INSPIRATION BEHIND SACRED LANDSCAPE PAINTINGS

STONEHENGE - Image of the sacred energy underneath Stonehenge. Inspired by a meditation that took place during the celebrations of the summer solstice; I felt an energy from underneath the ‘Blue Stone’ as I leant up against it.

SEABED - Meditating on the local beach, watching the sea lap over the pebbles I envisaged the layers underneath, reaching down to the very core of planet Earth.

MOUNT ARARAT - Painted from a visit to Armenia’s sacred mountain which is also considered the resting place of Noah’s Ark.

EARTH WHISPERER - Meditating lying on the earth I had a vision of things that  happen above ground create vibrations into the heart of the earth.

AMMONITUS - Painting of a dream where the light from above touches the earth below.

TERRA MATER - Inspired by viewing clay dug from Studd Hill under a microscope. The clay forms were chosen by their similarity to the ancient alchemical symbol for earth.

This also reflects the macro/micro philosophy where they are small clods of earth and at the same time maps of continents on planet Earth.

ORGASM – of creation.

ROOTED HEART - The rooted heart was inspired by a heart shaped flint stone found in my house of origin. Our hearts often connect to the landscape from where we come from.

POPOCATEPETL - Painted during an art residency in Mexico inspired by Homero Aridjis’ poem ‘New Fire’ about the famous volcano Popocatepetl. The legendary Quetzalcoatl emerges from the heart of the volcano.

Red sun in the west.

Long fixed rays piercing the valley.

Sky tensely blue.

Among the volcanic peaks, the smoking crest of  Popocatepetl.

From its summit, loose rocks roll down, silent, without weight, like a cataclysm without sound.
